Anna Thorley Consultancy
Promoting homeopathy as a natural partner to psychotherapy.
- Do you wish to work more naturally, spontaneously and in greater depth with those who seek your help?
- Do you recognise issues in your consulting room that go beyond finding the “right remedy”?
- Are you open to exploring your conversations in the consulting room as ingredients of the remedy?
- Does it appeal to you to develop a more psychological approach in your work as a homeopath?
- Are you a counsellor or psychotherapist as well as a homeopath but do you practise your skills separately and would you like to consider bringing them together?
- Are you aware of the ways in which your own psychological issues are both mirrored in and may affect your practice?
- Are you experiencing a situation challenging the professional boundaries of your work?
- Are you open to reflecting upon your work with persons who seek your help with whom you find yourself stuck, as a pathway towards understanding what needs to change?
If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, I may be able to help.
When we are told stories that are full of pain, our capacity to respond appropriately is crucial to the outcome of our work. Words, like remedies, may palliate or suppress whatever is happening rather than moving an individual towards healing. Even silence may speak volumes! I am dedicated to raising awareness within the profession of homeopathy about our relationships with those who seek our help.
What I offer
As an experienced practitioner of homeopathy integrated with psychotherapy, I offer a consultancy service for any homeopath keen to explore developing a psychological dimension to their work. I do not teach what I do, which I did not learn so much as develop in the context of my own therapeutic journey. What I do offer is flexible and wide-ranging support so that you may find an appropriate way of developing in these directions. When possible, we can meet in person, but I am happy to offer telephone sessions, by appointment. I offer a spectrum of opportunities:
- One-off or occasional sessions to enable you to re-vision your practice and explore possibilities of personal and professional development.
- Personal therapy, as a pathway to your working more authentically and with a deeper consciousness of both your skills and your limitations.
- Re-visioning. I choose the term re-visioning in preference to supervision, for while I do offer my experience from many years in practice, I do not see myself as possessing superior knowledge. I prefer to join you as a companion to your opening your heart to your dilemmas, in all humility, as to whatever a person’s suffering is asking for on their life’s journey, other than to be cured.
My service is principally intended for those with some experience in practice, and is likely to be of particular interest to homeopaths who already have experience of their own psychological journeys, or who are also prepared as counsellors or psychotherapists. But if anything that I say is of interest, do not hesitate to be in touch, then we can discuss whether what I offer could be helpful to you.
Further information
My approach is introduced in two of my publications, To Hell and Back and For Those who Dare, which are available here.
My experience
I bring to this work nearly 25 years of experience as a registered homeopath. Soon after entering practice I began to change how I worked in response to the challenging nature of the emotional and mental issues that I encountered in the consulting room. The experience of a sustained Jungian analysis, including work with dreams, was a seminal part of this process. For twenty years I was director of The Lindisfarne Centre, a therapy centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. There I worked alongside other homeopaths, counsellors and psychotherapists with a rich variety of approaches, and offered the New Horizons programme of Continuing Professional Development seminars. That widely ranging experience has left me well-placed to advise on the available options and perspectives as well as those that I have experienced myself. For there is no one way to work. What I prefer to do is to cultivate an appropriate attitude to what we do, one that respects the relevance of suffering in a life lived with a respect for its meaning and significance. Then, we are honouring the place of the sacred in what we do.
Retreats
On occasion, I intend to offer retreats, giving small groups of interested persons the opportunity to reflect on these perspectives in relation to their own lives and practice. They will be located in comfortable, quiet places that are modestly priced. Let me know if you wish to be considered for a future event.
Cost
All sessions, whether in person or on the telephone: £60 per hour.
